In My Pocket Project
In My Pocket project is a unique and free program that targets upper primary school students at a crucial stage in their educational development.
Dorrith Sim’s autobiographical picture book about her journey from Kassel Germany to Edinburgh Scotland in July 1939, forms the basis of an inspirational program that changes the way Holocaust education is introduced.
In My Pocket is a free two-hour workshop of a book reading with a creative art activity for upper primary classrooms (Grades 5 and 6). The story links with HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) units on civics, migration and refugees. Inter-curricular learning opportunities promote values of empathy, kindness and inclusivity in the multicultural classroom. Zoom / Teams training is available for teachers.
In My Pocket:
uses the narrative of the Kindertransport
documents Dorrith’s life from her birth, and includes the legacy she left
a stepping stone suitable for 9- to 12-year-olds
engages students of all cultures and backgrounds
has long term effects

In My Pocket is funded by the German Embassy in Canberra, the Hon Consul of Germany in WA and the city councils of Belmont, Swan, Vincent and Stirling, and supported by the Ambassadors of Israel & Lithuania, the Goethe Institute and the Indigenous Friends of Israel International
