Australia-Israel allies caucus launch – Canberra

Australian ground-breaking, new curriculum for Years 1-10 in schools which addresses the rise of antisemitism in our communities.
Announced by Barbara & Norman Miller at the Australia-Israel allies caucus launch in Canberra on 12 February.
With Andrew Wallace, Mike Kelly, Sarah Henderson, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, Amir Maimon, Barbara & Norman Miller.
We are approaching schools for the trial of this Australian ground-breaking, new curriculum for Years 1-10 in schools which addresses the rise of antisemitism in our communities.
Background:
Indigenous Friends of Israel International is dedicated to fostering understanding, combating disinformation, and supporting the Jewish community both locally and internationally. With the alarming rate of antisemitic acts of hatred in our communities, it is vital to provide a public education platform to address this serious issue. One of these initiatives is to develop awareness in schools through the development of curriculum units of work for teachers about how to educate students about antisemitism; with an understanding that such an anti-bias approach has the potential to be a catalyst for change in our communities.
What Indigenous Friends of Israel International is doing about it:
Shoshana Linnane, an experienced teacher and curriculum writer, has together with teams from Indigenous Friends of Israel International and WE ARE HERE! Foundation developed term-based units of work for teachers. Using the inquiry process of planning and teaching developed by education consultant, Kath Murdoch, units are directly linked with the national curriculum. Each unit provides details about teaching and learning opportunities with additional resources including background information, videos of teaching episodes conducted by Jill Rabinowitz of WE ARE HERE! Foundation and student graphic organisers. Our current unit for trial is for Years 5 and 6 titled, In My Pocket: The Journey of Escape for Dorrith Sim
The In My Pocket Project Books are funded by the German Embassy Australia
The German Hon Consul Perth

Note: INCLUDED in the activity, the children have lots of fun painting their own “pockets” with creative designs and are thrilled to take their pockets home with them, as a tangible reminder of their learning experiences from the day. The In My Pocket has now extended to state and private schools. Website: https://elirab.au
